Creating a Winter Wonderland from a $22 Drop Cloth!

It's been a minute since my last blog post...well, a little more than a minute…more like 7 years! It’s true, time really flies when you have young kids! I’ve finally been able to get back to shooting more the last 2 years, which has been wonderful. This year I knew I wanted to start painting my own backdrops. Why you ask? Well first off, I love to paint. It’s what I studied in college, but just like photography, it has been hard to find the space to create since having kids. The second reason is that quality backdrops are very $$ and I couldn’t find any that were as big as I wanted. So, I decided to make my own. The first thing I did was to buy a drop cloth off of Amazon for only $22. I used an iron and steamer to remove the major creases. I then painted the majority of the scene with a gallon of white paint and a gallon of dark gray paint. Finally, I added some green and brown accents from the acrylic paint set I already had. I’m really happy with how it turned out. I already have an idea for next Christmas that I can’t wait to bring to life!
